The Annapurna Panorama Trek (popularly known as the Poon Hill Trek) is one of Nepal’s most accessible, vibrant, and rewarding short walking adventures. Nestled within the spectacular Annapurna Conservation Area, this beginner-friendly trail is easily reached by a scenic drive or short flight from Pokhara. It is the perfect 3-to-5-day journey for travelers who want to experience the grandeur of the Himalayas without the physical strain of high-altitude mountain passes.
The route loops gracefully through charming, low-altitude terraced farmlands and dense, fairy-tale forests of blooming rhododendrons that burst into vibrant pinks and reds during spring. Trekkers stay in comfortable, highly developed local teahouses while experiencing the warm hospitality of traditional Gurung and Magar villages like Ghandruk.
The ultimate crown jewel of this trek is an early morning hike to the famous Poon Hill Viewpoint (3,210m). From this ridge, you will witness a world-class golden sunrise illuminating the towering massifs of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri (8,167m)—one of the highest peaks on Earth. Covering a gentle round-trip distance of roughly 40 to 50 km, it provides majestic Himalayan panoramas, low risk of altitude sickness, and unforgettable cultural memories over a compact time frame.
Day 01
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. A Himal Trek Nepal representative will meet you at the terminal and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in, take time to rest. In the evening, meet your licensed trekking guide for your pre- departure briefing. Sort out gear, finalize last-minute preparations, and ask questions before departure.
Day 02
Travel Time: 25-minute flight OR 6–7 hour highway drive.
Travel to the lakeside city of Pokhara today. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take a moment to unwind. The rest of the day is entirely yours for self-exploration. Stroll along the vibrant Lakeside strip, rent a colorful wooden boat on Phewa Lake, or complete any final gear shopping before heading into the mountains tomorrow.
Day 03
Leave Pokhara early in a private vehicle. Take a 3-hour scenic drive via Nayapul and Tikhedhunga directly up to Ulleri to bypass the grueling 3,000-stone-step staircase. Lace up your boots at Ulleri and begin walking. The trail follows an upward flagstone path, cutting through pristine rhododendron and oak forests for 3 to 4 hours until you reach the vibrant mountain village of Ghorepani.
Day 04
Wake up before dawn for a 45-minute headlamp hike up Poon Hill (3,210m) to witness a classic Himalayan sunrise. Return to the lodge for a warm breakfast, then pack your bags and leave the crowded main trail behind. Turn onto a quiet, isolated path that ascends steeply through enchanted, mossy rhododendron forests. Arrive by afternoon at the remote alpine ridge of Dobato, a tranquil sanctuary far from the commercial trekking crowds.
Day 05
Start before dawn for a crisp 45-minute trek up to Mulde View Point (Muldai Hill). Standing at 3,637m—significantly higher than Poon Hill—you will enjoy an unparalleled, crowd-free 360-degree golden sunrise over the massive Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Fishtail ranges. After soaking in the views, descend to Dobato for breakfast. Continue down a pristine, forested ridge trail all the way into the deep woods of Tadapani.
Day 06
Enjoy a much easier, shorter trekking day entirely downhill. Move quietly through dense, moss-draped woods known for its vibrant bird life. You will arrive by lunchtime in Ghandruk, a beautiful tribal village filled with neat, thatched stone houses and rich Gurung culture. After exploring the village, hop into your private transport for a smooth 2-to-3-hour drive back to Pokhara. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening by the lake.
Day 07
Bid farewell to the mountains and make your way back to Kathmandu. After checking into your city hotel, the afternoon is free for any last-minute sightseeing or souvenir shopping in Thamel. Gather in the evening to celebrate the completion of your successful mountain trek.
Day 08
Enjoy your final breakfast in Kathmandu. A Himal Trek Nepal representative will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport exactly three hours before your scheduled flight time, marking the conclusion of your journey.
