Crucial Visa & Permit Logistics
If you plan to enter Tibet directly from Nepal, the legal requirements are highly specific:
Day 1–3
Drive from Kathmandu to the Syabrubesi/Timure border, cross into Tibet at the Kyirong (Kerung) port, and spend a full rest day acclimatizing.
Day 4–5
Drive across wide plains and dramatic passes through Saga to reach the pristine, holy Lake Mansarovar.
Day 6–9
Base yourself in Darchen. Spend three days trekking alongside pilgrims around Mount Kailash via Dirapuk and Zuthulpuk monasteries, crossing the grueling Drolma-La Pass.
Day 10–14
Trace your route back through Saga and Kerung, crossing back over into Nepal to arrive in Kathmandu
