Chulu West Peak is a premier climbing destination in Nepal. It stands at a magnificent 6,419m (21,059ft). It is located in the remote Manang Valley. This peak sits within the Annapurna Conservation Area. The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) manages it legally. The Chulu Peak massif is uniquely complex. It comprises four distinct summits across a jagged ridge line. For strong trekkers, Chulu West is an elite milestone. It is famous for being highly technical. The route features steep, sustained glacier climbs and rock scrambling. It requires previous alpine experience and basic rope work.
The 16-to-19-day expedition blends perfectly with the Annapurna Circuit. The approach trek offers exceptional high-altitude acclimatization. You will walk through traditional Gurung villages and deep valleys. Our team establishes a rugged wilderness High Camp at 5,100m. The final summit push is an exhilarating challenge. Climbers use crampons, ice axes, and climbing harnesses. You will use jumar ascenders to scale fixed ropes up a steep snow headwall.
The summit rewards you with breathtaking views. You will stand face-to-face with Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. The adventure continues after your successful descent. Your team will cross the world-famous Thorong La Pass (5,416m). Himal Trek Nepal manages all complex logistics safely. We secure NMA climbing permits and provide premium group gear. Our elite, certified Climbing Sherpas guide your journey to ensure maximum safety.
Day 1
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. A warm Himal Trek Nepal representative will meet you at the terminal gates, present you with a traditional welcome marigold garland, and transfer you directly to your hotel via a private vehicle. In the evening, meet your expedition guide and climbing Sherpa for a mandatory pre-departure briefing to check high-altitude gear, review safety protocols, and cross-check peak climbing permits.
Day 2
While our team finalizes your official NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) peak climbing permit at the tourism bureau, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu's finest UNESCO World Heritage sites. Explore the historic temples of Kathmandu Durbar Square and watch the sun set over the ancient Swayambhunath Stupa before an early packing night.
Day 3
The paved highway ends completely today. Swap vehicles into a high-clearance, rugged local 4x4 jeep specifically engineered for the demanding terrain ahead. This intense, thrilling off-road mountain crawl cuts directly through vertical rock walls, passing beneath massive waterfalls (like the cascading waters of Chamje) and over narrow suspension bridges. Watch the lush subtropical bamboo forests give way to pine woodlands as you climb into the crisp mountain air of Chame, where you lace up your boots for the first time.
Day 4
Walk through deep apple orchards and pine forests to catch your first glance of the giant, curved rock wall of Paungda Danda. The trail enters a distinct trans-Himalayan rain shadow. Arrive by afternoon in Upper Pisang, a beautifully preserved Tibetan-influenced village looking straight across the valley at the Annapurna Massif.
Day 5
Follow the panoramic upper route toward Ngawal. This section of the trail climbs steadily away from the valley floor, offering your lungs an important taste of higher elevations while revealing incredible high-altitude perspectives of Annapurna II, III, and IV tracking directly on your left. Settle into the traditional stone houses of Ngawal.
Day 6
Enjoy a gradual descent past ancient Mani walls and beautifully painted chortens into the wide, flat valley floor. Walk through fields of barley and buckwheat to reach the bustling trekking hub of Manang, where you can stock up on last-minute summit snacks and gear items.
Day 7
Rest your legs today but keep moving to help your body adapt safely to the thin alpine air. Take a steep morning acclimation walk to the emerald-blue Gangapurna Glacial Lake or hike up to the Chongkor Viewpoint. Spend your afternoon exploring local bakeries or checking your specialized climbing boots.
Day 8
Leave the flat valley floor behind and begin a slow, measured ascent up into the high alpine zone. Watch the trees fade completely into sparse alpine shrubs and dry stone walls. Cross the Jarsang Khola river via a suspension bridge, keeping an eye out for herds of wild blue sheep before arriving at Yak Kharka.
Day 9
Branch away from the main Annapurna Circuit highway today and head up into the rugged wilderness of the Chulu valley. Climb steadily along a rocky moraine trail to establish Chulu East Base Camp at 4,700 meters. Spend the afternoon working with your climbing Sherpa setting up tented camps and reviewing rope handling.
Day 10
Walk over steep, loose scree and rocky slopes as you ascend to High Camp at 5,330 meters. This is a strenuous day where the effects of high altitude will be felt. Your climbing crew will fix tents on a high rocky ledge, offering a spectacular close-up perspective of the entire Annapurna range blanketed in white snow.
Day 11
Your ultimate test of endurance. Wake up for a midnight alpine start around 12:30 AM. Using crampons, ice axes, and fixed rope lines, cross glaciers and ascend a steep snow ridge. Step onto the summit of Chulu East (6,584m) at sunrise for a life-changing, 360-degree aerial panorama of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and the Annapurnas. Descend carefully back down to Base Camp to celebrate.
Day 12
A mandatory built-in buffer day to guarantee safety. If bad weather or high winds delay your climb on Day 12, this day is used for a second summit attempt. If your summit attempt was successful yesterday, this day turns into a relaxed morning to clean Base Camp and pack up gear.
Day 13
Retrace your steps back out of the Chulu valley and rejoin the classic Annapurna Circuit route. Walk across alpine pastures, keeping a steady, conservative pace to save your legs. Cross a suspension bridge to settle into the base of the world's widest pass at Thorong Phedi.
Day 14
Wake up at 3:30 AM to tackle the pass. Climb steadily through snow and ice switchbacks to reach the prayer-flag covered crest of Tho rong La Pass (5,416m). Enjoy panoramic vistas over the vast Mustang valley before embarking on a massive, steep 1,600-meter descent to the sacred Muktinath Temple.
Day 15
Take a domestic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and later fly back to Kathmandu with a connecting flight. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, rest and relax.
Day 16
Enjoy your final breakfast in Kathmandu. A Himal Trek Nepal representative will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport exactly three hours before your scheduled flight time, marking the conclusion of your journey.
